I just came back from an incredible 5 day trip to Costa Rica! While there, I played as a special guest with the Big Band from the Centro National De Le Musica and 4 nights at a great little club called El Sotano in Barrio Amon. The shows included drummer Rodolfo Zuñiga’s tribute to Nancy Wilson/ Cannonball Adderely featuring singer Karla Gutierrez and a night of original arrangements with her group “Solstice”.
I was completely taken aback by the level of respect for the music the audience showed night after night. Even in a packed house, they remained quiet and attentive till the songs had finished. I am very thankful to Rodolfo, Karla, Kenneth Jimenez and countless others who were so hospitable and made my experience to Costa Rica so special!
For the rest of my winter break, I will be working hard composing and arranging for the Henry Mancini Instute Jazz Septet led by Terence Blanchard (a.k.a. Terence Ensemble).
As always, I will continue to lead a weekly jam session at The Fish House every Wednesday from 7pm-11pm. I love playing this gig with friends every week and would love to see you there!
